With increasing age, the natural content of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin in the skin decreases. This results in sunken areas, diminishing contours and wrinkles. The targeted injection of cross-linked hyaluronic acid can compensate for volume deficits, harmonize contours and smooth wrinkles – without impairing facial expressions.
Differentiation from botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox®): While hyaluronic acid fills and shapes, botulinum toxin primarily reduces wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Botulinum toxin may therefore be the better choice for forehead/ frown lines or crow’s feet – ideal for pronounced expression lines.
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar building block produced naturally in the body that binds water and thus provides fullness and elasticity. Cross-linked HA gel is used in aesthetic medicine.
We use different hyaluronic gels: Some are firmer and shaping (good for contouring), others softer and smoother (ideal for fine lines, as a “skin booster”). Depending on the region, we choose the product that looks natural and lasts well.

*Note: The area under the eyes is sensitive; experience and technique are particularly important here.
Hyaluronic fillers can be removed again if necessary – for example, if something has been over-corrected or bumps/nodules appear. We use hyaluronidase, an enzyme that specifically breaks down hyaluron.

The German Society for Aesthetic Botulinum and Filler Therapy (DGBT) points out that there are very different hyaluronic acid preparations (e.g. different degrees of cross-linking and viscosities; some with added local anesthetic), which have a significant influence on the area of application and durability – lips often require softer gels with a shorter shelf life, areas such as cheeks/jowls tend to require products that retain their shape.
