Recognize causes, treat complaints effectively

Allergology in Munich

In our practice, we take care of recognizing and treating various allergies – both those that appear immediately (e.g. hay fever, food or animal hair allergies) and those that only appear after a delay (e.g. contact allergies such as nickel or fragrance allergies). Using modern test methods such as the Prick, RAST or epicutaneous test, we find out which allergens play a role in your case. We will then advise you personally on the next steps – such as issuing an allergy passport, the possibility of hyposensitization or the correct behaviour in the event of allergic reactions in everyday life.

Your allergists at Sendlinger Tor

In our allergy consultation in our private practice at Sendlinger Tor in Munich, we focus on the clarification and treatment of inhalation allergies (e.g. pollen, house dust, animal hair), but also allergies to contact substances.

Our aim is to identify the causes of your symptoms and offer you individually tailored treatment. Depending on the findings, our spectrum ranges from the alleviation of acute symptoms to causal therapies such as specific immunotherapy (hyposensitization).

Causes & solution approach

What is an allergy?

In the case of an allergy, the body reacts sensitively to substances that are completely harmless to other people. It is a false reaction of the immune system to substances from the environment that are actually harmless.

Why do allergies develop?

Allergies occur when the immune system reacts hypersensitively to substances that are actually harmless. Normally, the immune system protects us from pathogens such as viruses or bacteria. In the case of an allergy, however, it mistakenly classifies certain substances – known as allergens – that are harmless as dangerous. This triggers a defensive reaction that leads to typical allergic symptoms, such as reddening of the skin, itching, sneezing or breathing difficulties.

Treatment approaches -
contemporary, targeted, scientifically sound

We combine allergological expertise with modern diagnostics. We determine which tests and treatment methods are appropriate after taking a detailed medical history.

Allergy tests (diagnostics)

  • Prick test (skin): Standard for inhalation and food allergies. Drops of the allergen on the skin, light scratching, reading after 15-20 minutes.
  • Epicutaneous test: Clarification of a contact allergy (e.g. nickel, fragrances). Patch application, readings after 48 and 72 hours.
  • Intradermal test: mostly for suspected allergies to medication and insect venoms in cooperation with the skin clinics.
  • Blood test (specific IgE, component diagnostics if necessary): Supplements skin tests, helpful in case of unclear findings, severe skin irritation or antihistamine use.
  • (Rare) provocation tests: Only if there is a clear question and medical necessity, under close monitoring.

Therapy modules

  • Trigger management & skin barrier: avoidance or reduction of individual triggers, consistent barrier-building care for eczema/atopic dermatitis – see also Neurodermatitis – individual therapy & care.
  • Drug therapy: Modern antihistamines, possibly nasal/bronchial/topical steroids, calcineurin inhibitors for eczema, biologics according to guidelines for severe courses (e.g. chronic urticaria, neurodermatitis).
  • Specific immunotherapy (hyposensitization, SCIT/SLIT): Causal long-term treatment for inhalation and insect venom allergies. Goal: permanent tolerance and reduction of symptoms.
  • Anaphylaxis prevention: education, emergency kit in case of risk (adrenaline autoinjector, antihistamine, steroid), application training.
  • Occupational health advice: For occupational allergies (e.g. hairdressing/medical products), skin protection/care plans.

Note for parents: Allergies often begin in childhood. We offer closely coordinated care for children and adolescents in the children’s consultation for children and adolescents.

Treatment and follow-up

In specific immunotherapy (hyposensitization), an individual treatment plan is drawn up. The therapy can be carried out as subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in the practice or as sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) at home. Regular follow-up checks ensure the success of the therapy and allow the treatment to be adjusted as required.

Realistic goals & time frame

Description of results - what you can expect

  • Short-term: Symptoms can usually be alleviated quickly with suitable medication and trigger management. Eczema and itching improve, sneezing fits/runny nose become less frequent, sleep/performance improves.

  • Medium-term: Hyposensitization typically results in significantly reduced symptoms over the course of months – dependence on acute medication decreases.

  • Long-term: The aim is stable allergy control, fewer exacerbations in pollen season/allergen exposure and – in the case of insect venoms – relevant protection against severe reactions.

Care, protection, routines - easy to implement.

Aftercare / recovery

  • Check-ups depending on the findings (e.g. seasonal, every six months), fine-tuning of the therapy.
  • Strengthen the skin barrier: moisturizing care, soap-free cleansing, consistent sun protection sun protection & UV protection.
  • Everyday tips: Pollen count management (airing the room, washing your hair in the evening), mite reduction (encasings, ventilation, humidity), occupational skin protection.
  • Emergency/anaphylaxis plan: refresher course on autoinjector use, training for relatives.
  • Note comorbidities: Atopic dermatitis, asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis – interdisciplinary care if required.
