Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

Gentle treatment for actinic keratoses & light skin cancer

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a proven, non-invasive method for treating preliminary stages of white skin cancer (actinic keratoses) and early forms of basal cell carcinoma. At the Hautarzt Zentrum Sendlinger Tor in Munich, we offer the particularly gentle form of daylight PDT – with modern equipment, skin-friendly effects and precise preparation using fractionated laser technology.

Early treatment of sun-related skin changes

What is photodynamic therapy?

Photodynamic therapy involves the targeted destruction of damaged skin cells using a combination of light and a special cream. The so-called photosensitizer is applied to the affected areas and accumulates in the altered skin cells. The area is then exposed to artificial daylight, which produces reactive oxygen compounds that selectively destroy the diseased cells.

Regular skin cancer screenings can help to detect precursors such as actinic keratoses at an early stage.

For which skin problems is photodynamic therapy
suitable - and when is it not?

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is particularly suitable for the treatment of actinic keratoses and early forms of light skin cancer such as superficial basal cell carcinoma.

Also for therapy-resistant warts as well as in the context of complementary acne therapy PDT can also be used effectively. PDT is not suitable for certain pre-existing conditions or skin conditions, e.g. light disease (EPP) or neurodermatitis.

An individual medical assessment is also required for children – here we offer a specially tailored children’s consultation for children.
