Upper lip lift by bullhorn excision

An upper lip lift by Bullhorn Excision is a minor aesthetic surgical procedure with a major effect.

As we age, the amount of collagen in the skin decreases more and more and the subcutaneous fat tissue in the face also shrinks. The result is sagging of the upper lip, which increases the lip-nose distance. The red of the upper lip folds inward, giving the upper lip a narrow, line-like appearance.

Full, well-proportioned lips are an expression of youthfulness and sensuality and take on a “central” role in the face. Treatments for rejuvenation and corrections are requested by women, but also increasingly by men.

What is a lip lift by Bullhorn excision?

A Bullhorn excision is a form of surgical lip lift in which the distance between the nose and upper lip is corrected or shortened, allowing the red of the upper lip to be visibly brought back out through the lift. The naming “bullhorn excision” for this lip lift method is due to the incision being made in the shape of a curved “bullhorn”.

How is the upper lip lift performed with Bullhorn excision?

The lip lift is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or, if desired, under a short anesthesia by our anesthesia team. First, the optimal distance between the bridge of the nose and the red of the upper lip is precisely drawn, taking into account the closure of the mouth. This is followed by the incision, which runs directly under the nose and has the shape of a bullhorn. The excess skin is removed and closed with a special, delicate, countersunk suture technique. With proper wound healing and wound care, the scars are so subtle after healing that they are no longer noticeable.

Is the Bullhorn method right for me?

Whether a Bullhorn excision will lead to your desired result can be found out in a personal consultation. This method can achieve a fuller upper lip and counteract the aging process and gravity by shortening it. Bullhorn excision lasts about 5 to 10 years, which is many times more compared to filler treatment (hyaluronic acid). In addition, in the case of a narrow lip, due to the lengthening of the upper lip white, a filler treatment often does not lead to the desired, natural result.

What are the risks of upper lip lift?

.
An upper lip lift through bullhorn excision is a surgical procedure that may involve risks such as swelling, bruising, as well as interference with the wound healing process. A detailed consultation beforehand, a professionally performed procedure as well as your post-operative care is the basis of a successful correction.
