This therapy provides you with a safe, minimally invasive and clinically proven procedure against excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis) and strong sweat odor.

The procedure is based on the controlled application of microwaves and is currently the only method that has FDA approval and a CE mark and is recommended by the International Hyperhidrosis Society and the German Hyperhidrosis Center (DHHZ).

How does miraDry® treatment work and how is it used?

The way the system works is based on the focused delivery of electro-magnetic energy (microwaves) of 5.8 GHz wavelength. The resulting heat of more than 60° C destroys sweat and odor glands in the armpit region while the surrounding tissue is cooled and remains intact. Since once destroyed sweat glands do not regenerate, the results of the treatment are permanent.

At the beginning of a session, the area to be treated is anesthetized. The area to be treated is then measured and marked with a grid so that the miraDry® handpiece can be moved step by step over the previously marked area in a standardized manner.

The treatment lasts about 30-45 minutes per armpit, so that about 90 -120 minutes should be planned for the entire session. A second treatment at three-month intervals may be necessary for optimal therapeutic success.

Is the benefit of miraDry® scientifically proven?

The current hyperhidrosis guidelines explicitly mention microwave therapy as a treatment option, in addition to topical therapy, injection therapy with botulinum toxin A, tap water iontophoresis, therapy with radiofrequency or ultrasound, surgical interventions (e.g. axillary suction curettage or sympathectomy). The guideline recommends that the selection of appropriate treatment measures should be individualized based on the location, previous treatments, and the patient’s wishes.

The microwave procedure can permanently reduce axillary sweat production in a high percentage of over 80%.
